The 2019–2024 Toyota RAV4 is America’s best-selling non-pickup vehicle — nearly 475,000 units sold in 2024 alone. That means millions of owners searching for the same thing: when is my RAV4 due for service, and what parts do I actually need?

This guide gives you factory-recommended intervals and genuine Toyota OEM part numbers — without the dealer service-desk upsell. Bookmark it, or better yet, let an app track it automatically so you never have to think about it again.

Important Note

Maintenance intervals vary by model year, trim, drivetrain (FWD vs AWD), and whether you have the standard, Hybrid, or RAV4 Prime. Always confirm with your owner's manual — or enter your VIN into a maintenance tracker app for your exact schedule.

RAV4 Oil Change Schedule & OEM Filter

Toyota recommends full synthetic 0W-20 motor oil for all 2019–2024 RAV4 models, including the Hybrid. The standard interval is every 5,000–7,500 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. If you enrolled in Toyota's ToyotaCare plan, your first two years of oil changes are included at the dealership.

OEM Oil Filter — Part Number

The genuine Toyota OEM oil filter for all 2019–2024 RAV4 models (gas and Hybrid, 2.5L) is 90915-YZZN1. This supersedes the older 90915-YZZF2 — they are the same Denso-manufactured filter; Toyota simply updated the part number. Both are accepted at Toyota dealership counters.

Owner Note

Some 2023 RAV4 Hybrid owners report seeing 90915-10009 on the installed filter. This is the same part in a different print batch. The YZZN1 number is the current standard ordering code. Do not reuse the drain plug crush washer — replace it with OEM 90430-12031 at every oil change.

Engine Air Filter & Cabin Air Filter

The RAV4 has two separate filters owners frequently confuse: the engine air filter (protects the motor) and the cabin air filter (protects your lungs and HVAC). Different intervals, different part numbers.

Engine Air Filter — 17801-F0050

Replace every 30,000 miles under normal conditions. In dusty climates, near wildfire smoke, or on unpaved roads, inspect at 15,000 miles. A restricted engine air filter measurably reduces fuel economy and throttle response. The filter slides into the airbox above the engine with no tools — a 3-minute job.

OEM part 17801-F0050 fits all 2019–2024 RAV4 (US and Japan built, gas and Hybrid, 2.5L engine).

Cabin Air Filter

Replace every 15,000 miles or annually — sooner if you notice reduced airflow from vents or a musty smell with the AC running. Located behind the glove box and accessible in minutes without tools.

Toyota offers two OEM options for the 2019–2024 RAV4:

  • Standard pollen filter: 87139-0R030 — fits 2016–2025 RAV4
  • Premium activated-charcoal filter: 87139-58010 — same fit, adds odor + VOC absorption. Worth the extra ~$10 for allergy sufferers or city drivers.

Spark Plugs: Interval & OEM Part Numbers

All 2019–2024 RAV4 models leave the factory with iridium spark plugs, which offer dramatically longer service life than conventional copper plugs. Toyota rates them for 60,000–120,000 miles depending on conditions.

Best practice: inspect at 60,000 miles, replace no later than 120,000. Signs to watch for before hitting that mileage: rough idling, engine misfires, reduced fuel economy, or hesitation on acceleration.

Model YearEngineOEM Spark Plug P/NQtyGap
2019–2024 RAV4 (Gas)2.5L 4-cyl A25A-FKS90919-0127640.043 in (1.1 mm)
2019–2024 RAV4 Hybrid2.5L Hybrid A25A-FXS90919-0127640.043 in (1.1 mm)
2021–2024 RAV4 Prime2.5L PHEV A25A-FXS90919-0127640.043 in (1.1 mm)
Do Not Re-Gap Iridium Plugs

Iridium-tipped plugs are pre-gapped at the factory. Attempting to re-gap risks chipping the fine iridium tip and permanently damaging the plug. Always install at factory spec — no gapping needed.

Brakes & Tires

Brake Pads

Toyota doesn't specify a fixed mileage for brake pads because wear varies heavily with driving style and terrain. Inspect at every oil change and replace when friction material reaches 2mm or less. Most RAV4 owners under normal commuting conditions see front pads last 40,000–60,000 miles.

OEM front brake pads: 04465-0R090. Rear brake pads: 04466-0R060. These carry the correct friction compound for your ABS and vehicle stability control system — an important reason to use OEM or an equivalent-rated pad.

Tire Rotation

Rotate every 5,000–7,500 miles, ideally at every oil change appointment. AWD RAV4 owners should be especially consistent — uneven tire wear on an AWD system accelerates wear on the rear differential and transfer case, which are expensive repairs. The RAV4's recommended pattern is a straight front-to-rear same-side rotation (not cross-rotation).

Factory tire sizes: 225/65R17 (LE/XLE) · 235/55R18 (XLE Premium, Limited, Adventure) · 235/60R18 (TRD Off-Road)

RAV4 Hybrid-Specific Maintenance

The RAV4 Hybrid (2019–2024) and RAV4 Prime (2021–2024) share the same core service schedule as the standard RAV4, but add several hybrid-specific items gas-only owners never deal with. Skipping these can lead to premature hybrid battery degradation — a very expensive repair.

Don't Skip These

Additional items on top of the standard RAV4 schedule.

Battery Cooling Intake
Every 30,000 mi
Inverter Coolant Inspect
Every 50,000 mi
Inverter Coolant Replace
Every 100,000 mi
Hybrid System Scan
Annually
Brake Fluid (Regen)
Every 3 years
12V Aux Battery
Every 3–5 years

One upside of the Hybrid: brake pads typically last considerably longer than on gas models because regenerative braking handles most routine deceleration. Many RAV4 Hybrid owners get 80,000–100,000 miles from their front pads. That said, because the mechanical brakes are used less aggressively, rotor surface rust can develop faster — confirm rotor condition at each inspection.

Toyota RAV4 Maintenance — FAQ

The most common questions RAV4 owners ask — answered directly, without dealer spin.

Toyota recommends changing the oil every 5,000–7,500 miles or 6 months for the 2019–2024 RAV4 using 0W-20 full synthetic. The RAV4 Hybrid follows the same interval. Even if your oil life monitor hasn't triggered yet, don't stretch beyond 7,500 miles — the 2.5L engine runs warm and benefits from fresh oil on schedule.
The OEM Toyota oil filter part number for the 2019–2024 RAV4 (2.5L 4-cylinder, including Hybrid and Prime) is 90915-YZZN1. This supersedes the older 90915-YZZF2 — they are functionally the same Denso-manufactured filter. Some vehicles show 90915-10009 on the installed unit — also the same filter from a different production batch. All three numbers are interchangeable at ordering.
Engine air filter (replace every 30,000 miles): 17801-F0050. Standard cabin pollen filter (replace every 15,000 miles / annually): 87139-0R030. Premium activated-charcoal cabin filter (same fit, better filtration): 87139-58010. All three fit 2019–2024 RAV4 models (gas, Hybrid, Prime).
The RAV4 Hybrid shares the same core intervals — oil, filters, tires, spark plugs — as the gas model. Additionally, it requires: hybrid battery cooling intake cleaning every 30,000 miles (vacuum the grille behind the rear seat), inverter coolant inspection every 50,000 miles (replacement at 100,000), and annual hybrid system health scans. Brake pads typically last significantly longer on the Hybrid due to regenerative braking.
The 2019–2024 RAV4 uses iridium spark plugs (OEM: 90919-01276) rated for 60,000–120,000 miles. Inspect at 60,000 miles; replace no later than 120,000. Signs to act earlier: rough idle, engine misfires, hesitation on acceleration, or declining fuel economy. Do not attempt to re-gap iridium plugs — the fine tip can chip. They're pre-gapped from the factory.
1. Turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine. 2. Use the multi-information display button to show the TRIP A odometer. 3. Turn the ignition OFF. 4. Hold the trip meter RESET button while turning the ignition back to ON. 5. Hold for approximately 5 seconds — the light will blink, then go out. This works on 2019–2024 RAV4 and Hybrid models.
All 2019–2024 RAV4 models (gas, Hybrid, Prime) require SAE 0W-20 full synthetic motor oil. Capacity is 4.8 quarts (4.6 liters) with filter. Toyota recommends oil meeting Toyota Genuine Motor Oil spec or an equivalent meeting ILSAC GF-5 or GF-6 standards. Do not use 5W-30 as a substitute — it's outside spec for this engine and can affect warranty coverage.
