Question 1

What oil does a 2014–2018 Toyota Corolla take?

Accepted Answer

The 2014–2018 Toyota Corolla with a 1.8L 2ZR engine requires 0W-20 full synthetic motor oil. Capacity is 4.4 quarts with a filter change. The OEM Toyota oil filter part number is 04152-YZZA1 and torques to 18 ft-lbs.

Question 2

How often does a 2014–2018 Toyota Corolla need an oil change?

Accepted Answer

Toyota officially recommends oil changes every 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first, when using full synthetic 0W-20. The oil life monitor may suggest longer intervals, but 5,000 miles is the safe real-world interval for most driving conditions including city driving, short trips, and variable weather.

Accepted Answer

The 2014–2018 Corolla uses iridium tip spark plugs. Toyota part number is 90919-01247. The OEM supplier equivalent is NGK DILZKAR7C11GS. Gap is 0.043 inches (pre-set from factory). Replace every 60,000 miles. Torque to 13 ft-lbs.

Question 4

Does the 2014–2018 Toyota Corolla have a timing belt or timing chain?

Accepted Answer

The 2014–2018 Corolla 1.8L uses a timing chain, not a belt. Timing chains do not require scheduled replacement. Inspect at 100,000 miles and listen for rattling on cold start as an early warning sign of stretch or tensioner wear.

Question 5

What transmission fluid does a 2014–2018 Toyota Corolla use?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the transmission. The 4-speed automatic (U340E) uses Toyota ATF WS (part number 00289-ATF0W). CVT models use Toyota Genuine CVTF (part number 00289-CVTF0). Do not mix these fluids or substitute with generic ATF — particularly in the CVT, which can be destroyed by incorrect fluid.

Question 6

How much does a 60,000-mile service cost for a Toyota Corolla?

Accepted Answer

A dealership 60,000-mile service on a 2014–2018 Corolla typically runs $400–$700. DIY with OEM parts costs $150–$250. The service includes spark plugs, transmission fluid, cabin and engine air filters, brake fluid inspection, and a full vehicle inspection.

Question 7

Is the 2014–2018 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the E170 Corolla is consistently rated among the most reliable cars in its class. That reliability depends on following the maintenance schedule. Owners who skip fluid changes or ignore spark plug replacement intervals experience significantly more problems after 100,000 miles.

Accepted Answer
